I don’t really have to say much more when there is a new Gojira track out. When the French metal titans unleash a new track you already know it has been a spectacular week. Born For One Thing off their upcoming 7th studio album is an absolute belter. Full of the classic pounding heavy tone only Gojira can manifest, but bringing in plenty of the prog style from their earlier albums. It gets better every time you listen to it.

Party superstar Andrew W.K. made his metal label debut with new track Babalon this week. However, the good times of old were stripped away, leaving a dark and moody groove/Muse style offering. The metal influence from Napalm Records clearly seeping into the release, giving us a clear indication of where the new album is going to end up.

New track Genesis, from Danish death metal band Baest is exactly what you expect from straight up old school death metal. Full of filthy groove, there appears to be a bit of a resurgence in old school death metal at the moment, with Benediction and Frozen Soul‘s recent releases. More please!

Speaking of resurgences, anyone else notice the wave of nu-metal/nu-core bands appearing recently? Tetrarch and Tallah have had some outstanding releases recently, now Death Blooms are joining in. Their new track Fuck Everything has the prototypical mid tempo bouncing groove and unhinged wrath. Don’t pretend you aren’t happy at the potential return of nu-metal!

Want more rap-metal? Switzerland’s Dreamshade gave us new track Stone Cold Digital (featuring Italian singer-songwriter Rose Villain), which has a big whiff of the Ice Nine Kills style of composition. If you want to delve further into the INK metalcore/deathcore, Hiroshma, off Daze of June‘s latest album Tainted Blood is for you – brees included.

Orden Ogen released their new track Let the Fire Reign, the fourth single from their upcoming album Final Days. I have really enjoyed all four singles so far. This one is a bit of a softer anthem, but full of the Orden Ogen style.

Post-black metal outfit Harikiri for the Sky released their new track Us Against December Skies. 8 minutes of drawn out wails, slow tremolo picking and dissonant chords is not really my thing. But check it out if that sounds like your bag!

Our cave resident friends from the northern shores TrollfesT gave us a deliciously brutal video offering from their new track Happy Heroes. Combining Marvel’s greatest heroes with gloriously over the top cartoon violence, you most certainly do not want these fellas coming to save the day, save for when you want to be crushed by a building.

So, definitely some interesting releases this week. However, I think I telegraphed the end quite early. But when they release possibly one of their greatest tracks to date, Gojira easily take this week’s crown. The new album can’t come quick enough!
