Norway’s party ogres Trollfest have backed up their recent Happy Heroes single with their full EP. An abundance of happy party folk metal is present for your waiting ears. Strap on your beer hat, glow sticks at the ready, the party bus is in town. It might have mowed a few pensioners down on its way, but fuck it we’re gonna get smashed and shorten our liver (and life) spans anyway.
If you have seen their first video for Happy Heroes, you know their attempt at playing heroes went down as well as using a brick to perform brain surgery. Useless to the nth degree, but hilarious nonetheless. Now the kings of True Norwegian Balkan Metal have released their cover of the most sickeningly cheesy song of all time, Pharrell Williams‘ Happy. Accompanied by a colourful new video and a filthy breakdown. We know (of course) that any song can be made exponentially greater with the addition of a breakdown. Don’t @ me.
Alongside the title track and Happy is two more revitalised cover songs. Don’t Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin is turned into absolute chaos in the method Trollfest know best. And if the cheese factor is not already turned up to 11, the final cover is Aqua‘s hit Cartoon Heroes. I never thought I would hear Aqua and metal chugs so deliciously intertwined, but I guess there are surprises at every turn in life. It was clearly an absolute blast making this EP. I’m not jealous at all. Seriously. Ok maybe a little.
Each revitalized track keeps its original catchiness and will have you humming in K.A.O.S!
