The first week in February has given us some cracking new songs. Tetrarch have released new single You Never Listen, taking us straight back to the golden age of nu metal. Get the bleached blonde spikes back out, the Adidas tracksuit and chains off every pocket. Nu metal is back baby, and it’s like it never left. Ok maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement. But Tetrarch are no doubt set to be the breakout artist of 2021 if their new album is anywhere near as good as You Never Listen.
Serj Tankian gave us his new track Elasticity off his upcoming EP. It’s weirder than seeing Brady in a Bucs uniform, but unfortunately devoid of the magic you get from a System of a Down track. I have written previously about SOAD saving their perfect legacy by not releasing that elusive 6th album. On this evidence I suspect I am correct.
Cannibal Corpse gave us a brutal new track in Inhuman Harvest off their upcoming album. Never one to miss out on the brutal, and in my opinion the best they have sounded in a while. If you want to check out the new album cover (the NSFW one) make sure the children are out of eyeshot! When YouTube give it a watershed warning you know it’s sick AF!
Korpiklaani released their new album Jylhä this past week. Accompanied by new single Tuuleton and accompanying video. Putting the party anthems to one side, Korpiklaani have showcased their best side of combining heavy metal with folk metal yet.
Lamb of God announced the deluxe edition re-release of their self titled album, and one of the new bonus tracks released was Ghost Shaped People. It’s exactly what you expect from the groove metal staples; fast, pummelling, and with a crushing breakdown. Backing up their critically acclaimed 2020 release with another quality track.
But for me, this week’s winner is as clear as an NFL playoff pass interference bad call. Tetrarch are on the up and up, and it’s not even close. Winner winner Red Caps for dinner.
