The king of partying has taken a noticeably darker turn since signing with Napalm Records. Singles Babalon and I’m In Heaven have showcased a side of Andrew W.K. which had remained dormant behind the shroud of a whirlwind of party energy. The latest single Everybody Sins, from upcoming album God is Partying continues the industrial evolution of the party behemoth.
What do you think? The unsettling, industrialised, experimental sound, seeping with religious and spiritual imagery is certainly a hard left turn from Andrew W.K. Do you miss the old party days, or had it run its course and this new found nightmarescape brings a fresh new energy? I’m firmly in the latter camp. Let the darkness consume you!
Andrew W.K. commented:
”When we started working on the video for Everybody Sins, the director and I were scheming and straining over some of the choreography and camera moves. Now, I do realize some people will say life’s too short to scheme and strain like this. And others will say life’s too short NOT to scheme and strain. Still, other people will say both these approaches are incorrect. And what do I say? Everything I just said in the video for Everybody Sins.”
Showcasing his indisputable musicality, God Is Partying features Andrew W.K. performing all of the album’s instruments, in addition to co-producing the album with his long-time recording partner, Grammy Award-winning engineer, Ted Young.
God Is Partying is out September 10 via Napalm Records.
