Self certified post-genre specialist Poppy releases her Yuletide EP A Very Poppy Christmas. Comprosing of three original songs I Like Presents, I Won’t Be Home For Christmas and Kiss In The Snow, along with a cover of Silver Bells. Taking a deliberately sombre approach to the typical jaunty festive jingles. Perfectly fitting of Poppy‘s style, if you could even attempt to pigeonhole her work.
If anyone is impossible to bucket into a specific genre it would be Poppy. Starting life as a deliberate YouTube meme poking fun and taking an introspective glance at society and social media, she has gone on to make albums of wildly different flavours. Her latest album I Disagree took a turn to the heavy side, incorporating a heavy industrial metal influence. Following the path of her fiancé and fellow genre buster Ghostemane. Receiving a nomination for best metal performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards for Bloodmoney may be a controversial choice, but anyone bringing heavy music to the masses gets a thumbs up in my book.
